Govee Outdoor Wall Floodlight
This is a new outdoor floodlight from Govee that has a built-in motion sensor, works with Matter over Wi-Fi, can output up to 3000 lumens of brightness, and supports RGBWW color lighting. I haven’t tested this light myself, and I don’t have a good place to use it, but it looks very compelling. If I were in the market for a smart floodlight, I would certainly consider this one.
Apple’s new Home features will require a 2 TB plan
In the Beta 3 release notes for macOS Golden Gate, Apple confirms that you will need the 2 TB iCloud+ plan, which is also included in the Apple One Premier Bundle, to access the new video description features. These allow you to quickly read through descriptions of clips to find a specific event or just understand what happened. The other detail Apple mentioned in these release notes is that Apple will use Private Cloud Compute for video processing. From my understanding, based on how these release notes are written and past conversations I've had with Apple, video descriptions will also be generated by on-device Apple Intelligence. Private Cloud Compute is Apple’s privacy-first way to use their larger AI models in the cloud. If Private Cloud Compute is used, then it shows a clear connection to increased costs for Apple they need to cover somehow.
Flighty new Connections Assistant
If you need to fly or track others’ flights this summer, the Flighty app for Apple devices if the best. Their new Connections Assistant predicts your flight gate weeks in advance, and also gives you guidance on any checkpoints you must go through, personalized to the passports you tell it you have. This will all help you figure out if you’ll make your connection and is on top of Flighty’s Airport Intelligence, and long list of other tracking features that work across all airlines.
Along with annual plans for frequent travelers, Flighty offers single-trip coverage: $5 per week for individuals, or $10 per month for an iCloud family of up to 6. I was part of testing the very early alpha versions of Flighty, and I still have free access as a tester today, but I would totally pay for Flighty if I had to.
The Schedule
This week, I’ve been working hard on several projects for YouTube product reviews and other videos, but none are ready to show yet. I was also a guest on a podcast episode that I will link to when it comes out later this month. But no content to link to here that’s already posted!
On a positive note, we've been doing this newsletter for one year! I'm really enjoying this as a new part of what I do online, and I plan to continue it. Thanks for reading!
I hope you have a great rest of your Sunday,
Eric
