Apple Adaptive Temperature
This week, Aqara launched its Smart Thermostat W200. This is an incredible new thermostat, but the important part for us Apple fans is that it’s the first way to use Apple’s Adaptive Temperature, which they quietly announced with iOS 26 back in June of last year. Personally, I’m not that into these smart thermostat schedules, but Apple’s has great integration into iOS. For example, right from Control Center, I can easily customize a temperature override using the context menu shown above. This way, you can easily stop adaptive temperature for times when comfort is a higher priority.
Matter 1.5.1
The CSA is at it again with a new update for the Matter standard. I bet most companies that add support for Matter video cameras will just jump straight to Matter 1.5.1. It includes essential details like streaming video at different quality levels and streaming specifically for a device in your home to analyze the video and detect people and events. This doesn't really impact us consumers yet, since companies need to support it, but it's important to know what's coming down the road as you look at new surveillance cameras.
Multi-State Sensor P100
I’ve been having fun playing with this sensor. When I first saw this at CES, it seemed like a complete replacement for Aqara’s existing vibration sensor, but I’m not sure if that’s the case. While this sensor works with Matter, you really need Aqara’s app and system to get the most out of it for features like tracking object movement. Between open/close monitoring, orientation, movement, falling, vibration, and triple tap, it can be daunting to figure out what to do with the sensor. Either way, an interesting new toy that was overshadowed by the launch of the Smart Thermostat W200 this week.
The Schedule
Last week I posted a video about Aqara’s Smart Thermostat W200, and we returned to a live stream on Thursday night.
This week should be back to a normal schedule with a live stream and videos coming your way soon. I’ll also be at the Deep Dish Swift developer conference here in Chicago for my job, so if you see me, please say hi.
I hope you have a good rest of your Sunday,
Eric
