The New Siri is Delayed Again
Mark Gurman has a report at Bloomberg about the new Siri being delayed again. We discussed this on my live stream this week. I haven’t heard or read anything yet about the HomePod with a screen being delayed, but it’s reasonable at this point to guess it will not be coming until the second half of 2026. The HomePod with a screen was slated to go alongside updates to Siri. While there have been conflicting rumors, it looked like it all might launch in March with iOS 26.4.
An easy fix for HomePod touch screens
With all the HomePod-with-a-screen rumors, you might forget Apple’s existing HomePods have a touch surface on the top that can be used to summon the voice assistant, or for commands like music controls. YouTuber Faruk on the amazing iPhonedo channel had some issues with his HomePod 2 speakers false triggering the voice assistant and other commands through phantom touches. He figured out a clever fix with magnets that seems odd to me but I’m glad it works. Whether you are having issues with your HomePod 2 touch screens or not, I find the idea of this fix fascinating.
Design your smart home like Ferrari Luce
Jony Ive and his company LoveFrom designed a new interior for Ferrari’s upcoming electric car, called the Ferrari Luce. The interior was unveiled this week without the rest of the car. The Ferrari web page is a great visual tour of the design. There’s a handle on the center console, like there was on the back of the original iMac. Also the way the color shifting glass key goes into the car is very cool.
You are the designer of the controls in your smart home. As you are optimizing your setup, think about what should be on a screen, like an Apple Home widget or Control Center control, versus a physical button or switch. From smart buttons, to switches, to even something like a Streamdeck, there are lots of options to control your smart home before getting to voice control or sensors. The nice part is, you can choose what’s best for your home.
The Schedule
This week we had another live stream with a great discussion with some folks in the chat. I also posted a video on the Philips Hue Bridge Pro.
I have a number of exciting long and short form videos in progress. Let’s see what I can get posted this week…
I hope you have a great rest of your Sunday,
Eric
