I’m currently trying out this Twitter thing. I am unsure as to whether or not I like it yet.

Dell and Linux, Sitting in a Tree

[ rakaur on Mon Apr 07 at 11:00 AM // category: hardware, technology, unix // comments: 1 ]

Dell might be stupid, but Linux users aren’t as smart as they think they are.

Seriously, who cares what software Dell offers on their machines when the machines themselves are well below par?

[ rakaur on Wed Apr 02 at 05:09 PM // category: games, software, technology // comments: 5 ]

Here is a list of desired Wii games, in order of wantedness:

  1. Super Smash Brothers: Brawl
  2. Super Mario Galaxy
  3. Battalion Wars 2
  4. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  5. Star Fox: Assault (GameCube)
  6. Spore (unreleased)
  7. Animal Crossing Wii (unreleased)
  8. Mario Kart Wii (unreleased)

Also, virtual console titles:

  1. Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble
  2. Super Mario World
  3. Super Mario Brothers

The virtual console titles are especially easy to buy for me, since you can “gift” them.

Viva La Revolucion

[ rakaur on Wed Apr 02 at 10:56 AM // category: games, hardware, technology // comments: 4 ]

So, I finally did the irresponsible thing an purchased a Nintendo Wii. My game selection is currently limited to Wii Sports and a borrowed copy of Super Mario Galaxy. I have a few virtual console games as well.

And thus, I shall not post as frequently or pass classes.

Mosaic Communications circa 1994

[ rakaur on Mon Mar 31 at 04:19 PM // category: software, technology, web ]

Jamie Zawinski has put the old Mosaic Communications website from 1994 back online. It’s neat to look at, and the story behind it is even more interesting, especially what they had to do to get old browsers to be able to render the old page.

Sony BMG Sued for Using Pirated Software

[ rakaur on Sun Mar 30 at 06:04 PM // category: software, technology ]

I guess they haven’t been eating their own dog food.

The small software company PointDev learned that Sony BMG was using a pirated license for one of its system administration tools. PointDev got bailiffs to raid a Sony property and they found pirated software on four servers.

Steve Jobs Allegedly Insults Customer

[ rakaur on Sat Mar 29 at 09:48 PM // category: apple, hardware, technology ]

I found this story on digg, and it seems a little fishy. Customer spills water on a brand new laptop. While supposedly accepting full responsibility for the incident he for some reason “emails Steve Jobs” who supposedly somewhat insultingly replies.

The customer, an owner of a recently water-damaged MacBook Pro, called Apple customer care to get information about repair costs. Accepting full responsibility for the water damage, the customer was still subjected to confusing and contradictory information about the repair. Frustrated with his experience, he took matters into his own hands, emailing sjobs@apple.com (a widely acknowledged direct line to high-level Apple customer care).

Music Bullshit of the Highest Order

[ rakaur on Fri Mar 28 at 11:25 AM // category: music, technology // comments: 1 ]

So, a while ago, someone thought “Hey, this whole suing everyone thing isn’t going so well. How about we just make ISPs charge everyone $5 per month, because everyone is stealing!” This is evil and bullshit of the highest order. However, apparently this has caught on, and people are actually considering it now.

Large Hadron Collider to Destroy Planet

[ rakaur on Fri Mar 28 at 08:21 AM // category: technology ]

It looks as if people will continue to sue people over everything. Apparently everyone’s still terrified the LHC will create black holes and/or strangelets despite the fact that nothing like that has happened at Fermilab or any other particle accelerator.

The builders of the world’s biggest particle collider are being sued in federal court over fears that the experiment might create globe-gobbling black holes or never-before-seen strains of matter that would destroy the planet.

Inside the Apple IIc

[ rakaur on Thu Mar 27 at 11:21 PM // category: apple, hardware, technology ]

PCWorld has an interesting look back at the “MacBook Air of 1984.” It’s on a million separate pages. They have no shame.

At 7.5 pounds, the Apple IIc portable computer was the MacBook Air of 1984. Ever wonder what makes up a vintage classic? We took one apart to find out.
