Pain Update

[ rakaur on Sun Mar 30 at 06:49 AM // category: drugs, health, life, pain ]

It’s become apparent that the new pain is now the normal pain. The pain level has increased significantly, by at least a point on the pain scale, and it’s (painfully) clear that it’s staying that way. Which is, you know, bad.

I’ve recently changed my drug regimine from:

  1. A whole fucking lot of Vicodin;

To more along the lines of:

  1. Not quite as fucking much of Vicodin, and;
  2. A significant quantity of naproxen and ibuprofen.

Which seems to have helped, but not significantly. On school days and/or days I’m not working the typical dosage of hydrocodone is around 15-25mg. On bad days and/or days I work 7-9 hours, the typical dosage is around 35-55mg. That’s quite a bit. I try to keep it as low as possible, but the bad days… not even that quantity helps the pain.

This is my life, it seems.

Still Sucks!

Today is even worse than yesterday. I woke up and my back was really stiff, and moving at all is just horribly painful. This is even more symptomatic of AS. Not that I even really care anymore. I’m still hoping I’m just going through a bad spell this week and it’ll return to the “normal” pain, but it’s starting to look more like this is going to be the new normal. I could barely sit in class, and I got a “coaching” yesterday at work for absences. If I am unable to complete a shift before late May I’ll probably get fired.

That’s just a bummer.

Worse is Worse

The pain’s been a lot worse than normal the last week or so. I didn’t change anything… I just went to bed one night after it had gotten bad and when I woke up it was even worse. I had to come home from work after only a few hours a few days ago because the pain was too much. I’m on my last absence. I can’t lose my job.

The pain is somewhat different… I have the same pain, and on top of that it’s as if I can feel every single joint in my back hurting independently. It’s been more my neck than lower back lately. Just bending down and coming back up hurts very badly. Twisting is bad, and just moving around is bad. Hopefully it goes back to “normal” in a couple days… I don’t know.

Who Needs Sleep?

I do! I haven’t had it in about two days now! I don’t know if it’s the pain or some other random reason… I just simply can’t sleep. I’ve laid in bed and watched my girlfriend sleep for six hours then hung out with her while she gets ready for work then laid in bed for another six hours then gotten up and gone to work for nine, then come home and laid in bed and watched her sleep…

I just really want to fall asleep. I’m hoping stacking a combo of Vicodin, Xanax, ibuprofen, Benadryl, and beer will do the trick. If I die, at least the no one that reads my blog will know why. Please tell my family.

Nope!

So I saw my pain doctor again yesterday. He went over everything again and said he didn’t think it was anything serious, and the only thing he could think of is an odd presentation of ankylosing spondylitis. So that’s him, two PTs, and me thinking the same very rare disease. He’s sending me back to my primary care and having him run a gene test for a gene that’s been associated with AS. So I’ll update after I get those tests…
