My Life, in a Nutshell
My name is Eric Will. I am a software engineer for EBL Engineers. I work under contract for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. I write various programs to help manage the hospital facilities as required by JCAHO.
In my spare time I write various programs for fun, such as shrike, synapse, rhuidean, and kintara. I am a member of the XMPP Software Foundation and many of my projects revolve around XMPP. All of my public projects are hosted and available on Github. I'm also interested in aquaria and neuropharmacology. My long term goals include returning to school and completing a Pharmacy program.
I currently live in the Baltimore/Parkville area with my girlfriend of two years and our three cats. She’s attending Towson University for Nursing. We are both originally from the St. Louis area, and we moved here for my job with EBL.
My “group” of online friends/programmers do projects under the name malkier.net, and all of our combined efforts can be located there. I've been working with computers since I was 11 on a 386. I've programmed for a large part of that time, usually in C, and more recently Python and Ruby. Until recently, I no longer maintained any software, and was no longer active in programming. Sometimes I get the itch, but I just don’t have the time, especially considering I do it at work all day long.
I am on XMPP/Jabber and IRC. My JID is rakaur at malkier dot net.
My email address is the same. On IRC, I am on irc.malkier.net as rakaur.
I also have a following on Twitter.
This site is written and maintained by me. It exists mostly as a pastime to shell out my frustrations and tribulations upon the unknowing public, as unfortunate for them as it may be. You’ll also find various nerdery such as computers, technology, photography and most likely anything else encompassed by similar characteristics.
This site adheres to and validates as XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.0 standards. Verification links can be found to the right of the page. This site is developed primarily using Safari. If this site looks like shit in your browser, you’re probably using a shitty browser that doesn’t adhere to standards. In Internet Explorer, any unordered lists placed in the sidebar are rendered quite badly due to some CSS stupidity where IE (at least up to version 7) gets the positioning backwards. I've been trying not to care. That’s going quite well.
